Embracing Compassion: Understanding the Lost Sheep

2-minute devotion for Thursday, 11/13/25

I thank God for forgiving me of my sins and changing the course of my life. I hate to say it, but I have wandered off the path more than once. So I understand that through betrayal and trauma, Satan can get a person off track. That fact gives me compassion for any sinner that has experienced trauma. Sometimes, people judge sinners harshly, but have you ever wondered how or why that person ended up a prostitute, homeless, or a drug addict?

Depression, hopelessness, loneliness, and rejection are some of the things that can make a person vulnerable to Satanic attacks. If we knew their story, we would have compassion.

Believe me when I say, the Good Shepherd truly goes after the one lost sheep and carries them home. His mercy is abundant!

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Then Jesus told them this parable:  “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’  I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:1-7

In His Love, Cindy
