I like to copy the Scriptures I pray into my journal. These verses strengthen my faith. I will list some of those verses, but you can add verses that are specific to your prayer needs. Keep them handy (or better yet, memorize them!)
After fasting forty days and forty nights, he (Jesus) was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4: 2-4 NIV

“Take … the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17 NIV

Oh I do love to write out scriptures in my journal. I confess that, I have not done much journaling lately but this reminder gives me some motivation to get back on track. Thanks!

I think that writing down Scripture on paper helps to write it on our hearts. Thank you for commenting. Blessings, Pastor Pete!

Over the years I have heard a lot of comments about Catholics and their “canned” prayers. Yet my mother had a prayer box that she pulled out a prayer very day. It also had a Bible verse on it. Yes, it was blessed by her priest, but it was the fact that my mother’s heart was set not on religion or obligation or rote memory, but an honest heart believing in God. She did not graduate 8th grade because being the eldest, her mother died and she was then responsible for the household.
She thought very lowly of herself and had no confidence that she was smart enough to come up with her own prayers before God, so she read each day her Missal, and her prayer box. That left a lasting impression on me.
So when I had my own children, we made up a prayer box, each day we prayed for something different from the heart and we read a Bible verse. Those were great memories that even to this day my son does the same with his children.
Thanks for the fond memory and the trip down that lane. God bless you Nancy

These are great verses, Cindy, and I recognized many of them. The verse about all things working together for good is from my favorite NT chapter, Romans 8.

Have you noticed the following verse, the one that defines what that “good” is? – Conforming us to the image of Christ. (Good to remember when the way things turn out aren’t as pleasant as we hoped.)

Amen! Blessings, Annie!
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Romans 8:28-29 NIV
