Prayer Power!

We are vulnerable when we’re lonely. During this time of social isolation and quarantines, I suspect there are many people fighting the attacks of the enemy. But, as Beth Moore once said, “The devil can knock you down, but he can’t keep you down!”

We must follow Jesus’ example and speak the Word. Jesus quoted the Word of God to the devil in the wilderness. It was powerful then and it’s powerful now. Satan will flee.

After fasting forty days and forty nights, he (Jesus) was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4: 2-4 NIV

I like to copy the Scriptures I pray into my journal. These verses strengthen my faith. I will list some of those verses, but you can add verses that are specific to your prayer needs. Keep them handy (or better yet, memorize them!)

“Take … the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:17 NIV

Verses for Prayer

FIRST FORGIVE:

“I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:10-11 NIV

GOD’S PROMISE:

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and he will come near to you.” James 4:7-8a NIV

GOD’S PEACE:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

IN FAITH:

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us …” Ephesians 3:20 NIV

FOR SAFETY:

“I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:2 NIV

FOR STRENGTH:

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 NIV

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 NIV

IN TIMES OF TROUBLE:

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Ephesians 8:28 NASB

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3 NIV

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 NIV

FOR GUIDANCE:

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105

“The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.” Isaiah 58:11a

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

FOR ANOTHER’S SALVATION:

” … if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,  and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil …” 2 Timothy 2:25-26 NASB

“One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.” Acts 16:14 NIV

“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1 NIV

Prayer is our declaration of dependence on God.”

  2. I so agree Cindy, it is good to read scripture especially when you feel the enemy is trying to get his arrows into you. It does strengthen my faith.

  3. Good morning, Cindy. Thank you for this thorough list of Scripture. I, too, write HIs Word in journals or just repeat a verse when I am in need. The devil is strong in his deception to pull us away, but God is strongest. Have a beauty-full weekend, sister. Love in Christ, Julie

  4. Good morning, I love Jesus response. Man shall feed it’s hunger on the words coming from Gods mouth. Powerful words, it is what nourishes the spirit. I love Jesus power to boldly declare Gods truth even when His defenses are down. Well, at least from a human stand point.
