Daily Scripture

Daily Scripture, 6/12/19

During his 1953 Inauguration, Dwight D. Eisenhower had a Bible opened to II Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

  1. Amen!
I’ve seen some misunderstanding about this verse when applied to America. “My people” does NOT refer to America, it refers to believers. WE are the ones who need to humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from OUR wicked ways. We need to stop focusing on the specks (or planks) in the eyes of the unbelievers and clean up our own house first. (Excuse the mixed metaphor!) An unbeliever is going to act like an unbeliever, but we need to act like the Body of Christ – His bride – so that He can act through us.
OK, leaving the pulpit now… :/

    1. I totally agree about the seemingly common misunderstanding of this verse. Thanks for drawing attention to it so that there may be clarity. 🙂
